The Gentiana cruciata, or Crosswort Gentian as it is commonly known, is a blue, free-flowering beauty that thrives in dappled shade. This great groundcover has dark green foliage and delightful blue gentian flowers which appear in August and September, creating a low, dreamy blue effect. So easy to grow, Gentiana cruciata looks great at the edge of borders; in a rockery or in woodland and it favours moist soil. This hardy perennial is also rabbit-proof, which is a great asset to those enjoying country gardens! Height: 30cm (12″) Spread: 30cm (12″)

Plant gentians in full sun or part shade, on light, fertile, reliably moist soil in rock gardens, alpine troughs, raised beds and containers. On heavier soils, incorporate plenty of grit to improve drainage, prior to planting.
Water gentian plants regularly until they’re fully established. Provide additional water during particularly hot, dry periods. Cut back faded gentian flowers to just above the rosette of foliage to keep plants tidy.
