Water regularly until young hydrangea plants are established. In autumn, apply a mulch of well rotted manure to the base of the plant taking care not to mound it up against the stem as this may cause it to rot.
Hydrangea paniculata ‘Magical Moonlight’ flowers on new wood so it is best pruned as the flowers fade in late summer. Reduce stems to restrict their growth to the available space and to improve the shape of the plant. No other pruning is necessary. However, Hydrangea paniculata will tolerate hard pruning and the removal of the oldest stems to a few buds from ground level if necessary. This will also encourage larger flower heads to be produced.
