The perennial, everlasting sweet pea is a great climber that will return year after year. Lathyrus latifolius ‘Rosa Perle’ produces a lovely display of soft pink-lilac flowers during summer. Although they don’t have the scent of annual sweet peas, the sprays of flowers on these reliable climbing plants are just as attractive. Ideal in traditional cottage gardens, in borders, on trellises and pergolas and growing through trees and shrubs, this Lathyrus is fast-growing and very easy to grow. Height: 2m (6′). Spread: 1m (3′ 3″).

Plant perennial sweet peas in fertile, well drained soil in sun or semi shade. Prior to planting, add plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost to the soil. Be sure to provide the stems with a trellis or plant climbing frame, and tie stems to their supports as they grow.
Feed and water regularly throughout the growing season. Deadhead faded flower stems frequently to encourage more blooms to be produced throughout summer. In autumn, remove old growth when the stems yellow and die back. Apply a mulch of well rotted manure or compost to the base of the plant in spring.
