Pot up and grow Mandevilla plants on in warm, frost-free conditions until they are well grown. Once all risk of frost has passed, transplant them into their final positions in patio containers, a greenhouse or conservatory, making sure to maintain a minimum temperature of 10°C (50°F). Grow Mandevilla in full sun, with some shade from intense heat under glass. Use soil based compost such as John Innes No. 3 when planting into containers. Plant Mandevilla at the base of a suitable support such as trellis or climbing frames. Caution: Sap is an irritant to skin and eyes, all parts are harmful if eaten.
Water and feed regularly throughout the growing season. Move Mandevilla plants to a warm, bright position for the winter, maintaining a minimum temperature of 10°C (50°F) and watering only sparingly. Once established, prune Mandevilla in late winter or early spring by taking side-shoots back to within 3 or 4 buds of the permanent framework. Remove any overcrowded or weak shoots.
